John Hagihara, AICP
Principal | Vice President
Years Experience: 11
John has a breadth of experience in projects ranging from environmental assessments, to land use entitlements, multimodal transportation and facilities planning. His expertise in GIS and database management is a tremendous asset in various planning exercises, including the iterative process to identify, review, and select 150 station sites within urban Honolulu for Biki, the City’s first bikeshare. With an educational background in environmental planning, John has a deep understanding of environmental regulations and permitting issues, and has managed and supported the development of numerous environmental review documents. Prior to joining HHF, John worked with the Hawai‘i Community Development Authority to develop a comprehensive community engagement process for the development of Complete Streets in the Kaka‘ako District. During his graduate degree, he was fortunate to secure a graduate assistantship working for the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center. There he assisted in adapting a GIS floodplain mapping course and developed geospatial data visualizations illustrating the relationship between urbanization and disaster risk.
As a daily bicycle commuter, John is a passionate complete streets advocate. When he is not at work, he can often be found on his bike or in the ocean.
