Gene Yong, AICP

Senior Associate

Years Experience: 34

Gene Yong has provided a broad range of planning services across the Pacific Rim, including Southeast Asia, the Hawaiian Islands and the Continental United States. Projects have included long-range facilities master plans, entitlements, and feasibility studies for private developers, public and private K-12 and higher education schools, large institutional clients, and various public agencies.

A strategist and designer at heart, Mr. Yong supports clients throughout all aspects of pre-construction planning and design phases. These include strategic decision making regarding resource allocation and prioritization, facilities-related implementation and acquisition strategies, detailed planning concepts for large campuses and installations, continuous and holistic stakeholder engagement, and a successful track record of entitlements and regulatory approvals.

His efforts have led to the successful execution of award-winning projects such as the repurposing of Singapore’s former General Post Office Building as a luxury boutique hotel, the Fullerton; a new 2-5 Learning Complex for Punahou School, the acquisition of Date-Laau properties to enable expansion of Iolani School; the complete reconstruction of Shriners Hospital for Children in Honolulu; a new Waterfront Production Services Support facility for Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard; and a new District-Wide Master Plan and $259 million bond for the Mountain View Whisman School District.
