Corlyn Orr focuses on community planning, policy analysis and environmental planning projects, including Federal and State environmental review documents, land use permit applications, and policy planning initiatives. With fifteen years of service at HHF, Corlyn is knowledgeable in environmental, physical, political, and regulatory issues that affect development and land use decisions, and has experience in facilitating community and agency consultations and coordinating public meetings, skills which are important to successfully completing both public and private planning projects in the State of Hawai‘i. Prior to joining HHF, Corlyn was a planner for the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Planning and Permitting, where her responsibilities included administering planning contracts, conducting community planning projects, and reviewing permit applications for consistency with County plans.
Corlyn’s primary goal as a planner is to help the general public understand the value of planning and to encourage meaningful participation in the planning process. Although there is much satisfaction in receiving a permit approval or witnessing project construction, her most memorable work experiences are those small moments that allow for one-on-one dialogue with individuals from the community. When she retires and “grows up” (or preferably once her keiki are grown), she aspires to be more involved in public planning processes and grassroots projects like the individuals she meets in her work.
