Sharing a short note from our summer intern, Naomi Jun!
My name is Naomi Jun and I am the current summer intern at HHF Planners. I am an undergraduate student at University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and will be graduating next semester (Fall 2018) with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies: Urban Environmental Planning. I was born and raised in Honolulu and the reason I got into urban planning was because I wanted Hawai’i to be developed in an environmental manner without dismissing Hawaiian knowledge and the local community. As one of my professors best put it, “it is not to work for the community, but to work with the community.” Of the many different concentrations in urban planning I am interested in urban design: how the streets, roads, shops, houses, landscaping, and more all interact with each other and how the spatial quality of a community can promote or hinder social interaction, quality of life, and a community’s ability to thrive. I hope to do my Masters in Urban Design and am excited to see where life takes me next.
Mahalo for your hard work, Naomi!
