HHF members joined a large gathering of Historic Hawai‘i Foundation supporters on the beautiful sunset-lit lawn of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel to celebrate the history and many community contributions of the Ai Family, who continue to own and operate kama‘āina company, City Mill, after 115 years.
We were truly inspired by the Ai family’s legacy of philanthropy in Hawai‘i, which began with founder Chung Kun Ai at the turn-of-the-century and continues to this day through his grandchildren, current President and Vice President of City Mill, Steven C. Ai and Carol Ai May.
The Historic Hawai‘i Foundation has presented the Kama‘āina of the Year award annually “to individuals and organizations who have contributed to preserving Hawai‘i’s rich history and perpetuating the essence of Hawai‘i” since 1988. Take a gander at the Historic Hawai‘i Foundation’s website to learn more about its mission and to see a list of past award winners and photos from this year’s event.
