HHF led an interdisciplinary team to prepare the conceptual site plan for this new 350,000 SF Command and Control Facility (C2F) for the U.S. Army. The study establishes the footprints and basic organization of the project, coordinating a complex set of program requirements into a phased building program. The planning effort incorporated current best practices in sustainability including the use of solar panels, rain water catchment systems, green walls and green roof concepts, and natural day lighting features. The project is seeking LEED Gold Certification.
Alternative concept plans were developed to evaluate site opportunities and constraints. Tasks included coordination of infrastructure and circulation requirements, security zone requirements, and the development of the LEED assessment scorecard. The team worked with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to develop a preliminary energy optimization model to create a high performance building envelope. Architectural concepts, landscape master planning, and computer 3D modeling were also a part of the study.
The Center will be constructed on a 27-acre site on the Fort Shafter post. A $25 million design phase has recently ended and a ground breaking ceremony was held in April 2012.
