Barbers Point Naval Air Station Community Reuse Plan

Location: Ewa, Oahu, Hawaii

Client: Barbers Point Redevelopment Commission

Helber Hastert & Fee prepared the reuse master plan for a 3,600-acre (1,457-hectare) military base scheduled for closure by the U.S. Navy in Ewa, Hawaii. Initial reuse concepts by residents of nearby communities, design professionals and government resource personnel were gathered through a charrette process. Representatives of these groups were organized into four task forces which met monthly and advised the Redevelopment Commission on preferred uses of the property. Although the Navy will retain housing and recreational assets, much of the property will be turned over to local agencies for economic redevelopment and public facilities.
