Helber Hastert & Fee prepared a Rural Historic Landscape Assessment for the 166-acre Kapalawai Homestead owned by the well-known Robinson Family of Kauai, Hawaii. The property served as one of the Family estates, and included a 17,000-square foot residence built in 1897, several support buildings, and a 6.5-acre fishpond constructed by the ancient Hawaiians in about 1200 AD. A 250-unit resort is proposed for construction on the property, and the Rural Historic Landscape Assessment was intended to support planning for the resort that would preserve and protect the identity of the Robinson Family holdings, while providing an ideal setting to “tell the story” of the Family in the context of the significant cultural resources that exist on the property.
