Historic Preservation

Helber Hastert & Fee’s specialty in historic preservation planning, historic landscape architecture, and cultural landscape assessment is unique in Hawaii. Over the years, HHF has been an integral part of diverse and award-winning projects for both public- and private-sector clients, as highlighted by our featured projects.

By utilizing a cultural landscape approach to preservation planning, HHF maintains a holistic and integrated perspective. This enables us to identify and understand linkages between historic periods, geographic areas, and resource types.

Our historic preservation services include:

  • Historical research, inventory, and documentation of cultural resources
  • Analysis and evaluation of resource significance and integrity
  • Development of preservation management and design guidelines (treatments)
  • Preparation of physical plans for the enhancement and interpretation of individual sites, clusters, and historic districts
  • Restoration and rehabilitation of historic designed landscapes

In concert with in-house GIS and cartography, landscape architecture, and graphic design staff, our HHF historic preservation specialists produce:

  • Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plans (ICRMP)
  • Cultural Landscape Assessments (CLA)
  • Preservation Plans
  • Facility Assessments and Reuse/Revitalization Studies
