A festive time was had by all at the 2017 Preservation Honor Awards hosted by the Historic Hawai‘i Foundation. HHF Planners and the project team, including NAVFAC Hawaii EV-5 and Mason Architects, garnered a preservation commendation award for the Historic Context & Section 110 Eligibility Assessment for Former NASBP Leased Parcels 1-16. The two-part report documents the broad history of the Ewa Field and initiates the process to preserve historically important buildings on Former Naval Air Station Barbers Point (NASBP), exemplifying the Navy’s proactive efforts to ensure accurate historic documentation, establishment of historic covenants, and the preservation of historic properties prior to conveyance. The project helps to ensure that as Kalaeloa is redeveloped, there will be architectural vestiges of the historically significant World War II and Cold War periods.
