HHF was involved in preparing the Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) and the Plan Review Use (PRU) Permit for the 90 year-old institution in Honolulu’s Urban Core to capitalize on planned investments in a new science building and planned Kapālama Transit Station. The project looked at the needs of the campus from the present to the year 2040, analyzing the layout of the campus to account for projected new facilities.

A series of campuswide workshops and interviews with students, staff, faculty, and administration highlighted the campus’ desire for greater engagement. HHF translated this desire for greater campus engagement into a “Heart of the Campus” concept that included a multi-purpose Student Union, campus quad, and large gathering lawn and amphitheater.

HHF also coordinated with with the project architect in the siting of the campus’ new Advanced Technology and Training Center (ATTC) at the terminus of the existing Campus Mall and Kōkea Street. The ATTC in concert with the Kapālama Transit Station will  create a new gateway for the campus that will better announce its presence in the community.
